Liam Tribe Simmons is the Associate Head Coach for the Southwest Baptist Bearcats men's basketball team. He is the older brother of current NBA player Ben Simmons.
Simmons was born in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy to Australian mother Julie. Through his mother's first marriage, he has a younger brother Sean and has two older sisters, Melissa, and Emily, a former member of the Washington State University women's rowing team who has worked for Klutch Sports since 2014, is the wife of NFL player Michael Bush. Through his mother's second marriage, Simmons has a younger sister, Olivia, and a younger brother Ben, who played college basketball for Louisiana State University (LSU), and was selected with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Prior to coming to SBU, Simmons served as the Men’s Basketball Assistant coach at Nicholls State University during the 2013 season, helping lead NSU to their first winning conference record since 2008-09. Prior to coaching at NSU, Simmons spent two years coaching at Northwest Christian High School, one year as the Head Coach and the other as an Assistant Coach, leading his team to the Arizona State Tournament both years. In 2007, Simmons was an Assistant Men’s Basketball coach for San Diego Christian College, helping coach his team to the NAIA National Tournament. Simmons has also spent time coaching U16 and U18 teams in Australia.
Liam graduated from San Diego Christian College with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Simmons played basketball for SDCC from 2003-06. While at SDCC, Simmons helped lead his team to an NAIA National Tournament appearance, two top 10 NAIA national rankings, and an NCCAA National Championship. He would also go on to earn a Master of Education from Australian Catholic University.
Liam Simmons currently resides in Bolivar, Missouri with his wife, Tiffany, and son Noah.
