The couple met during a college basketball game. “He was walking up the stairs, I was sitting in the stands and we kind of made eye contact,” Curry said. Lee, who was also in the video, said that he when he saw her, he knew he was never going to “forget that face.” They struck up a conversation and exchanged numbers. Then it was a true courting session over six months for him to ask her to officially be his girlfriend, the two have been devoted to making their relationship a successful one—with God as the center of it all. Lee was the first one to say, “I love you,” which was on New Year’s Day. He had planned the whole thing out for her and bought her a necklace as a present.
In November, Lee pulled off the ultimate surprise when he got down on one knee and asked Curry for her hand in marriage, and the moment, she admits caught her off guard but it’s still one of the best moments of her life. The poem before I got down on one knee:
“It’s so blah just to ask you to marry me
I’m with you until the end, until they bury thee
Love is nothing to rush, I know you wouldn’t hurry me
Would you like to be Mrs. Sydel Alicia Curry-Lee?”
Curry then clobbered him and asked him if he was serious, if this was a joke, she said everything but “yes” but that was a no-brainer! 10 min go by and she finally said yes still hugging him to make sure that she wasn’t dreaming.
“The engagement definitely caught me as a surprise [because] I thought that it would take him forever to ask me to marry him because it felt like it took him forever to ask me to be his girlfriend. But we had talked about. We both told each other that we loved each other and wanted to get married eventually when the time came. And so the fact that we are engaged, I’m not surprised because I knew it would get there eventually.”
Marriage[]
They were married on September 1, 2018 at the Charlotte Marriott City Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her sister-in-law, Ayesha Curry served as a matron of honor. The other participants included her brothers Stephen and Seth, nieces served as flower girls Riley and Ryan.
