Amber Cherie Roberson (born January 24, 1990) is an American retired indoor volleyball player. She played for multiple volleyball teams outside of the United States. Roberson played college volleyball for University of Texas.
Early Life[]
Born to Lisa and John Roberson in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Amber grew up in San Antonio with her six siblings: Ashlee, André, Arielle, Anthony, Aaliyah and Arianna. Her brother, Andre, is a professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets. Roberson played with the Kaepa Alamo Volleyball Club beginning at age 12. She helped the team win the Texas State Cup four times as well as a Southwest Regional Championship in 2005.
Roberson attended Wagner High School, where she was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and basketball. She was named volleyball team captain playing as an outside hitter and middle blocker. During her senior season, she posted team-best 554 kills and 322 digs. She was was a four-time All-American, two-time first team all-state, all-region dream team and all-conference. She was also an excellent student, earning High Academic Honors as a senior and was a member of the National Honor Society.
College[]
In Roberson's freshman year in 2008 she started all 21 games for the Texas Longhorns women's volleyball team, and was named to the Big-12 All Freshman team and the All-Big-12 Second Team. As a sophomore in 2009, she played in 20 games, starting eight, and was named to the ACC All-Academic women's volleyball team and the Big-12 Honor Roll. As a junior in 2009, she played in 26 games and tallied 190 kills. As a senior in 2010, she was an Big-12 third team.
International[]
Roberson was selected to the 19-member 2008 U.S. Women's Junior National Volleyball Training Team in the Spring of 2008 with Texas teammate Michelle Kocher and trained with the USA Youth National A2 team in the summer of 2007.
